About this product
Araliya Red Nadu Rice is the everyday rice of Sri Lanka, parboiled before milling so the goodness of the bran stays in the grain. It cooks up a warm reddish brown with a firm, nutty bite that stands up to a ladle of curry, which is why it is the rice most Sri Lankan families put on the table on an ordinary weekday.
Red nadu rice takes a little longer than white rice and wants a touch more water, but it is forgiving and fills you up. Use it for rice and curry, a bowl of parippu, a lunch box that has to last until one o'clock, or a plate of red rice with pol sambol and nothing else. The grains stay separate once cooked and reheat well the next day.
Araliya grows and mills this rice in Sri Lanka and packs it at origin, free of sand, stones and black seeds. Buy Araliya Red Nadu Rice in the UK from Chandra World Foods in 5kg and 10kg bags, stocked in Britain and delivered to your door nationwide.
Red nadu is the rice most Sri Lankan families cook on an ordinary day. The grain is parboiled before milling, which locks in the goodness of the bran and gives it a firm, nutty bite that holds up under a ladle of curry. It takes a little longer than white rice and rewards the wait.

Cooking guidance
Four steps and one pan.
-
1
Rinse
Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
-
2
Cook
Add 2 cups of water for every cup of rinsed rice and bring to the boil.
-
3
Simmer
Cover, turn the heat right down and simmer for 25 to 30 minutes until the water has gone.
-
4
Rest and fluff
Leave covered off the heat for 5 minutes, then fluff with a fork. Red nadu likes a little more water than white rice, so add a splash if the pan runs dry.
